Just when we were starting to despair of new Il-woo info… here’s a news item about Il-woo’s new agency.

Il-woo also posted a message on official Japanese fansite Smilwoo; he just took his university midterms, he’ll have news for us soon and he wants us to take care of ourselves. Awww:

On May Day, Il-woo tweeted the first photo. How nice to know that “our frog” is doing well!

Subsequently, several news outlets, including allkpop, reported that Il-woo has signed with Haru Entertainment:

“Actor Jung Il Woo, who is actively promoting as a Hallyu star in dramas and advertisements, has signed with our agency.”

“Jung Il Woo is an actor with much popularity in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and more countries across Asia. We will create more opportunities for him to meet with fans in the future. We will show our endless support for Jung Il Woo so that he can develop as a good actor.” 

It’s not clear whether this is the name for the agency Il-woo wanted to create for himself, or if this is an already-established agency. Can’t find a homepage for the latter…

Smilwoo also added a couple of pictures of shiny, happy Spring Il-woo!

So eNewsworld floated an exclusive yesterday that Il-woo, despite being besieged by lucrative offers after leaving his current agency, may have decided to manage his own career with his own agency!

Salient quote:

“A source close to Jung Il Woo said, ‘Japan and China have been showing great interest in Jung Il Woo. He will be setting up his own agency with help from an acquaintance who can systemize his management. His decision was also influenced by how he hasn′t served his military duties yet. It seems he thinks he should promote alone for a year or two before his enlistment, instead of signing a long contract with another agency.’

The source added, ‘There is a high possibility his mother will be listed as the corporate representative, and many officials in entertainment and advertisement, who have been close with the actor since his debut, will join him at his agency.’ “

If you are anything like me, the joy over the thought that Il-woo will be more involved in his next projects pales a little next to the thought of losing him for a couple years to the South Korean military.  :(((((

I hope he does some memorable work before that fateful day!

Kim Bum describe that monitoring each other work is part of his friendship with Lee Minho and Jung Ilwoo. “The three of us have different personalities, so we also different in the way we talk.”, Kim Bum said.

Even the three of us are like brothers, we’re used to hear comment like this, “Hey, this is not supposed to be like this~” since we try to be honest to each other. That’s right, Lee Chung Ah and Lee “Pillar” Ki Woo have apparently been seeing each other since the beginning of the year.

Hmmmm.

The official line is that they are on a celebrity ski team together and got to know each other better then, but how much better could they get to know each other than months of late night filming with Lee Ki Woo’s oiled, cut abs front and center? Regardless, good work, Lee Chung Ah!

JUNG IL WOO CAREER CH-CH-CH-CHANGES

While Student Il-woo (pictured above in the university cafeteria) diligently works to complete his degree, he has apparently also decided to part ways with his current agency.

I hope whomever he eventually  signs with can get him into some films with international visibility, as well as some dramas. Endorsements and fan meetings pay the bills, but they don’t make a long-term career.

• Answer:

  Yes! As a half Canadian, it was the first time I’d seen Il-woo in a place I’d also visited!

  Although One More Time is scripted MTV - typically honest, Il-woo actually mentions that it is both acting and “reality” in the show itself - it is a rare chance to see “real” Il-woo, outside of interviews asking about his ideal type. :)

  All five parts of One More Time with English subtitles can be found on YouTube under this account.

  Il-woo had a burst of activity in Japan when Flower Boy Ramyun Shop aired there twice, and when DVDs of same were released, but it seems he’s concentrating on finishing university now. He does have a great official Japanese site, Smilwoo, which posts delicious pictures that I shamelessly repost here quite often. Smilwoo also has its own Twitter and Facebook page.
